Life in the slow lane

Happy New year to all! A few days after Christmas we left Grenada and sailed the 40 or so miles (sailing is not the shortest distance between to points) north to Carriacou. This charming island is 13 square miles and the largest of Grenadines. The locals are very friendly and welcome the foreign guests.
We are in a snug anchorage in Tyrell Bay and the local boat yard offers free wifi and Simon a local man comes around in a small boat selling wine. You can get the wine $2 EC (Eastern Caribbean dollars) cheaper in the grocery store (that is $.74 US), but after all Simon is offering a valuable service and needs to making a living. Robert, another boatman, comes by in the evening offering the removal of trash and fresh fruit if available.
We have been enjoying the island and holidays with friends. We have taken several hikes and in this photo Hunter is looking down on Tyrell Bay. A highlight of one hike was finding a Red-Legged Tortoise crossing the trail. These are the only native ground tortoises in the Caribbean and they are considered "Endangered" on Carriacou and are expripated in many of the northern islands.
