Boat chores

I know that most of your think that this life style resembles a very long vacation, but when you do most of the work on your own boat it is not a vacation. We have been at the Bahia Redondo Marina for 10 days and been busy learning about the area and doing boat chores that we have postponing for the opportunity for unlimited water and power. Last week we sent our two anchors and 230 feet of chain to be re-galvanized. The chain was loosing its zinc galvanization and was getting rusty - rust is no ones friend on a boat. Today the chain and anchors returned looking like new and Hunter had to re splice the chain to the rope anchor rode and remark the chain. That pretty much ate up the afternoon. Of course when the chain was out of the anchor locker we swabbed out the muck in and anchor locker and gave it a good washing.
A few days ago we hired a taxi and took our life raft to be opened, tested and recertified. When Hunter pulled the cord on the raft the CO2 canister did its job and puff- the raft started to inflate. The guys in the shop identified the items that needed to be replaced because they are, or will soon be expired and replaced them. The list was short, but the items are costly. The whole first aid kit had to be replaced because the aspirin was about to expire. The flares, patch glue, flashlight batteries and Dramamine were replaced. The will raft stay inflated for 24 hours and will be repacked into its little clamshell box that lives on deck and hopefully the only time we will see it is during periodic service.
Last night we saw the new Batman movie. We were assured that it would have subtitles, but it was dubbed in Spanish. I could understand scenes, but had a hard time putting it together. After reading the review I can see why the plot did not make sense.
We will be taking a trip inland for a few days- so keep an eye out for new posts.
