Cap Chat
11 July 2017
Left Rimouski at 630am with a plan to do 82 miles to Cap Chat. Rob did not make the jump onto the boat when leaving dock so I had to pick him up a couple of docks over. Weather was fair and winds were light. Motor sailed with main sail up for 6 hours, very uneventful. Saw the Bluenose off far in the distance then another tall ship from Spain. Wind picked up after lunch and we put up the genoa and cut the motor. We were sailing down wind more than 8 knots sog at times. We were warned by the Coast Guard that we were on the edge of a gale and we managed to find it. So it was a mad panic to get the sails down before the wind hit. There were a few minutes of hustle while we did that and the winds topped 30 knots. We then headed back towards the south shore line as there were squalls forecast all around us. Better to follow shore if visibility drops. The winds were so strong that the storms split apart so we did not really get wet. Arrived at Cap Chat finally around 730pm and docked between two fishing boats. We were both too tired to cook so we had ham and cheese sandwiches and some beer and wine. Bed came at 900pm.
