Slept in to 700am. Sunny morning with high winds overnight including our first experience with catabolic winds from the mountains nearby. Apparently, we need to take them into consideration until we get to Gaspe. They only happen in the middle of the night. We had 44 miles to do to get to an anchorage at Mont Louis. Plan was to motor all day because the wind was so strong. Talk about a deserted shoreline! For two days now we have not seen marine wildlife. Apparently around Cap Chat there are a lot of large whales, visible especially in the morning. Problem was we were dealing with 15-30 knot following winds and 3-meter waves. It was like being on an exercise machine the whole time. Legs were flexed every 2-4 seconds for stability, arms were used to hold on and stomach was flexed to keep the torso vertical. The boat was rolling 30 degrees in both directions every 2 seconds or so. We had to hang on, even motoring. The ride was quick, 4 ½ hours for 44 miles. We anchored in the bay and joined an American sailboat from Rhode Island also at anchor. Deployed both anchors in anticipation of the catabolic winds that will surely blow tonight. Boat seemed to hold in about 15 feet of water. Steak is planned on the BBQ tonight as we cannot get off boat unless we blow up the dinghy. By the looks of the village, we are better off on the boat anyway. Please note that we do not have internet at some of these ports along Gaspe coast. I can sometimes upload by peer to peer on the cell phone but cannot upload photos. When I get to good internet I will upload many photos. Approximately 60 miles to Forillon tomorrow, winds are promised to be more moderate.
