Bridges to Boca Raton

13 February 2012 | Boca Raton, FL
One of a dozen.

Well, yesterday, 2/12, was pretty, but cold and windy, so we didn't move. Glad we didn't because navigating/timing all these drawbridges is enough without dealing with wind and cold.

So we left this morning and motor'd through a pretty day with temperatures in the low 60's and light wind. After negotiating 12 drawbridges, we anchored in Lake Boca Raton, just inside the Boca Inlet. This is just a wide place on the ICW, but counts as an anchorage in Florida.

The scenery often comprised huge Florida houses, done in a Greco-Roman style with various sculptures planted about (giraffes and mermaids are popular). The Captain finds these places gross examples of what humans do to a planet, while the Admiral will only admit that they are "overdone."

Tomorrow will be a fairly short day to Fort Lauderdale, where we will stay for a couple of days in a nice marina, collect our mail, and try to get an idea of what the place is now like. (We will not spend time looking for Uncle Lloyd's motel.)
