Solomons Island to Annapolis

13 June 2009
CURRENT LOCATION: Docked at Port Annapolis Marina
38 57.798' N, 076 28.780' W

For the final time, we woke before the crack of dawn and picked up our 60-lb CQR from the waters below. Winds were from the north, and we spent our final sailing day aboard Prudence motoring straight into the wind.

The closer we got to Annapolis, the greater the concentration of boats on the water became...

... by the time we turned into Back Creek, it was wall-to-wall boats. I maneuvered nervously through the heavy traffic as Kirk and Sheryl tried to determine which of the many marinas was our intended destination.

When we finally reached Port Annapolis Marina and saw the narrow divide between the rows of slips, I nearly chickened out and went over to the anchorage instead. However, without a dinghy that option just wasn't going to work. I steeled myself and moved very, very slowly down the row of boats and somehow managed to turn the nose of our boat into the slip.

With both Sheryl and Kirk to fend off the pilings, we soon muscled Prudence into the slip and tied her securely. Between now and Monday I will have to sweat the fact that I have still to take Prudence out of this slip and around the corner to the lift sling. For now, though, it is time to celebrate our return to land with a long, hot shower and dinner out.

This blog starts in 2005, when we initially had the idea to quit our jobs and live on a sailboat while we cruised to the Caribbean. At that time we had never owned a boat and had no experience sailing. [...]
