It is Official, We Have a New Boat!

15 October 2006 | Whortonsville, NC
Doug Mayle
This weekend was the annual Octoberfest "Cruise to Nowhere" at the Whortonsville Yacht and Tractor Club. Unfortunately, we were unable to participate. Fortunately, the reason was another scheduled showing of Ashiya to prospective buyers. My work-related travel kept me out of town late on Friday so we drove out very early Saturday morning. We bent on the sails as others at the marina pulled out of their slip. It was tough to watch them go, as it was a beautiful day for sailing.

The couple arrived to look at our boat and spent a fair amount of time aboard. The gentleman seemed interested, but the lady seemed less interested in owning a boat and more interested in purchasing property.

Although we missed the cruise, we were able to make it to the social gathering afterwards and happily shared with our friends the details and photos of our new boat. I can say 'our' new boat, because the closing occurred on Thursday. With all i's dotted and t's crossed, we can officially consider it our boat. Although the health of our bank account has suffered considerably, we count ourselves richer for having found and purchased this wonderful boat.

Weather permitting, we will start bringing the boat down to North Carolina next week. Stay tuned for details about this exciting journey aboard Queste.

About:
We are Doug & Sheryl, owners and crew of the sailing vessel Prudence.

This blog starts in 2005, when we initially had the idea to quit our jobs and live on a sailboat while we cruised to the Caribbean. At that time we had never owned a boat and had no experience sailing. [...]
