Pre-Cruising Sailing Experiences
16-Oct-2007, Overview

For those who have not read every blog entry, here is a synopsis of our sailing experience before we became full-time cruisers:

Our first chance to experience cruising was with friends in Belize. It lit the fire which eventually fueled all of our subsequent adventures:
MAY - 2005: Doug & Sheryl Cruise with Steph & Bruno aboard Artemesia

Soon thereafter, we purchased our first boat. Of course, we didn't even know how to sail. The experience eventually became my first published story:
AUG - 2005: Doug & Sheryl's first trip aboard Ashiya

We needed to learn how to sail, and what better place to do it than our dream destination... the Caribbean:
OCT-2005: Doug & Sheryl take sailing classes in St. Vincent & the Grenadines

Once we were properly trained, it was time to begin our adventures aboard Ashiya. First stop, a long weekend at the Outer Banks:
NOV-2005: Doug & Sheryl sail Ashiya to Ocracoke

In warmer weather, a longer trip found us pushing Ashiya through the ICW and out on the Atlantic Ocean:
JUL-2006: Doug & Sheryl sail Ashiya to Cape Lookout and Wrightsville Beach

Finally, the time had come for us to get a bigger boat. Even before we renamed her Prudence, we were faced with the task of bringing a Southern Cross named Queste home to North Carolina:
OCT-2006: Doug & Sheryl sail their Southern Cross from Annapolis to Whortonsville

Approximately one year later, Nov 1, 2008, we will shift from weekend sailors to full-time cruisers.
