Return to Boo Boo Hill and Multinational Night Aboard Prudence

23 December 2007 | Warderick Wells Cay, Exumas, Bahamas
CURRENT LOCATION: On a mooring ball at Warderick Wells Cay, Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park, Exumas, Bahamas

Today was to be a day of rest (DOR in our personal vernacular). Still a day of some activity, the first focus was to take it easy and rush nothing. After a leisurely start to the morning, we went in to the office to settle our bill for mooring here at the park (the plan is to depart tomorrow morning). While on shore, we walked the short distance back up to Boo Boo Hill in order to leave the official calling card for a visit to Warderick Wells.

Our sign has a special significance. Our friend, Jim, had created the wooden signs for us as a going away present. They were presented to Sheryl at her retirement celebration from American Airlines. We thought it only fitting that the signs should announce our presence here in this special place. The photo above shows the signs, with Prudence in the background (the tiny dark-hulled sailboat just above our signs). Once again, our thanks to Jim. {Special note to Jim: we kept with one with our last name to continue using aboard as our nameplate}

A return to the boat found me engaged in baking, yet more bread, while Sheryl tried to ID fish from pictures she had taken. Slack tide arrived early in the afternoon and we took advantage of the opportunity to snorkel a reef within swimming distance of the boat. Therefore, dear Reader, you will find even more incredible fish photos under the 'Exumas, Bahamas' link on the left.

We rounded out the evening by having guests aboard for sundowners. Barry & Susan, aboard Nighthawk, are from Canada. And Simon & Hilda, aboard Calisto, are from Great Britain. They are buddy boats, with Calisto having years of cruising experience and Nighthawk on their first trip to the islands. We have not had guests aboard since Charleston, and it was nice to entertain in the cockpit of Prudence, once again.
Vessel Name: Prudence
About:
We are Doug & Sheryl, owners and crew of the sailing vessel Prudence.

This blog starts in 2005, when we initially had the idea to quit our jobs and live on a sailboat while we cruised to the Caribbean. At that time we had never owned a boat and had no experience sailing. [...]
