Conch have Eyes

Another rainy day left us content to move slowly throughout the day. The end of the trip for Sheryl and I was looming and the gray cloud of that pending separation was already hanging in the air. To break some of the doldrums, we went out exploring in the dink. Arriving at another fish camp, our goal this time was not fish, but instead we were in search of a ride. From the Bluefield Range, there is another small deserted island, Rendezvous Cay, which is about 2 nautical miles away. Unfortunately this is fairly open water, and would be a challenge for their dinghy with two aboard. Definitely not doable with four adult bodies weighting her down. The only people at the fish camp were a young man and a young woman. She spoke English fairly well, he not at all. Even though their colleagues had already taken boats out to Rendezvous Cay for the day, we enjoyed a bit of time with them. We talked about how they prepare conch, as there were conch shells all about the camp. There was even one with a live conch sitting on the pier and we were able to see that conch have more than just eyes. We played a little basketball, they had a hoop and plywood backboard but no net, did a little snorkeling and bid them farewell.
