Cleaning and Checking

This was our first full weekend on the boat and we were fortunate enough to have a 3-day weekend (Labor Day). This gave us ample opportunity to clean out the boat and give it a good once-over.
Many boats were absent from the dock, as one group had sailed to Bill and Susan's place in Bridgeton (New Bern), and another had sailed to Cape Lookout. It turned out to be a good thing, because we cluttered up the dock with all the stuff we found aboard the boat.
Examining the contents of all the lockers was akin to buying someone else's garage, then discovering all the stuff stored therein. After sorting stuff to be returned to the boat, stuff to store in our garage in Durham, and stuff to throw away, Sheryl did a great job of organizing all the storage lockers aboard. I wonder if I will ever be able to find anything.
During the week we had purchased all new docklines, so we took all the old lines home to soak in the tub (with a little bleach and fabric softner).
I borrowed Larry's dinghy and scrubbed all the hull I could reach, then cleaned the deck. The boat truly did shine.
During our inspection, we took up and inspected the sails. They looked good; however, we discovered a major problem. As you can see in the photo above, our boom was being held onto the gooseneck with nothing but coorosion. Yikes!
It was time to remove the mainsail and take the boom into town. West Marine could not offer any help, but suggested that we try SailCraft. Unfortunately, no one was there.
Oh well, I guess we will be without motor or sail for a while.
