US Sailboat Show

08 October 2005 | Annapolis, MD
Doug Mayle
We awoke at a very early 3am and were on the road by 4am. The drive to Annapolis was a white-knuckle affair, due to the downpouring rain, darkness, and standing water. With Sheryl at the helm, as usual, we were in good hands.

We arrived at the boat show parking lot, took the bus to the event, and were buying our tickets by 10am (when all the tents were just opening up). Sheryl and I had assumed that there would be an indoor section to the show, but all was outside in tents. We spent most of the morning dashing from tent-to-tent. By early afternoon, the rain let up to a sprinkle and we started to explore all the boats. We looked at Beneteau, Catalina, and Hunter. We also examined the small catamarans: Gemini, Tomcat, and MaineCat.

Sheryl fell in love with the MaineCat 30. The couple showing that boat even invited us to go sailing on Tuesday. Sometimes having a job just gets in the way of things.

Even though the rain picked up again, we stayed until the end of the day, 7pm, and purchased several items before departing, including: shoes and a coat for Sheryl, gloves for me, and cushions, an air scoop, and fuel filter funnel for Ashiya.

Despite the rain, it was a good day.

About:
We are Doug & Sheryl, owners and crew of the sailing vessel Prudence.

This blog starts in 2005, when we initially had the idea to quit our jobs and live on a sailboat while we cruised to the Caribbean. At that time we had never owned a boat and had no experience sailing. [...]
