20 May 2013 – Monday - Mile ZERO
WELL……… we’re out of the AICW, and anchored at Mile Zero (Hospital Point) in VA.
We anchored 5 minutes before we got hit by a wild front of wind…. The nasty looking clouds were converging on us all morning…. So an early quit today seemed like a good idea. (Insert smile face here!)
We took our time this morning, leaving the free-dock at Great Bridge…. We didn’t want to get caught in the traffic lock-out hours of the “steel bridge” (7 to 9 AM)… At that I have to laugh…. Because, no matter how you try to plan your trip…. You get TRIPPED up…. We missed the lockout of the “Steel Bridge”, but got caught by a train going across the Norfolk and Southern RR bridge.
So…you win some… you loose some.

We did get 70 gallons of fuel this morning (all in the bow tank); and water fill, and a pump-out…so we’re all set for the trip north on the Chesapeake Bay…
We’ve arranged a visit with our friend Deb Taber for this coming weekend… So that sets the ‘end point’ of the trip to Annapolis…. The first day is a long one… Norfolk to Deltaville ( 56 nm)… Hopefully these south winds will stay with us…(to some degree)… The weather keeps threatening T-storms, etc.
So far, so good. (insert ‘fingers crossed here).
Sunday… had a treat for us in the middle of the day… George and June Smith came down from Cobbs Marina near Cape Henry (where their boat “Fathom This” is located)… for lunch at the Japanese restaurant at Great Bridge…. They volunteered to teach us about the TAKURA menu items…. Everything was delicious…
Today was a short day…. But tomorrow will start very early…. SO… I’ll end this and post.
