Autumn Borne Cruising
Sunday - Monday in Miami Beach
Dean - Sunny and Warm
02/05/2013, Miami Beach, FL - North of Venetian Causeway

Monday - FEB 4th, 2013
Good evening... We're beat tonight...
We walked all over Miami Beach today...
We had volunteered to fix breakfast for the crew from the s/v Rhiannon,
(Lisa, Jefferson, and Benny).
After that we started errands, and a walk up Miami Beach... (we walked from 14th street down to 4th street on the beach), then lunch at Finnagan's on the Beach; and finally a movie ( The Quartet, directed by Dustin Hoffman, and starring Maggie Smith). GREAT movie !!!

But it was a lot of walking...

We came back to the boat and ate wonderful CHILI, and Brownies, to gain strength !!! Thanks to Donna, and Mike Dailey (s/v MOJO) for those items...

Donna Dailey drove down Sunday PM to pick Susan and I up and take us home to their place in Adventura. We had a great time... Mike cooked on the grille near the pool while we shared some beers. Then while consuming massive quantities of great food we watched one of the greatest Super Bowls ever played.... Wow.
We got home really Late to AB..... (keep in mind that 'cruisers midnight' is about 9 PM).

We'll start our provisioning for the islands tomorrow.... and see if we can catch a weather window in the next week or two...

In the mean time...we'll see if we can continue to have fun here... :)

Day with the Dailey's - in Miami Beach
Dean - Sunny and Warm - Miami Beach
02/03/2013, Miami Beach

Sunday AM - Feb 3d 2013
Wonderful day, yesterday.
We spent practically the entire day with Donna, and Mike Dailey (s/v Mojo)... in Miami Beach, and Aventura.

After the chores of making RO water for the AB, and adding some "SeaFoam" to the dinghy gas tanks, we met Donna and Mike at the dinghy dock and walked to lunch at the B&B (Burger and Beer).

Then we decided to drive up to the 79th Street Marina where their sailing vessel is secured in a slip... (MOJO). Sharing some wine in the cockpit of Mojo, we continued to catch up on our respective family activities since we parted ways while cruising the coast.

In the late afternoon we decided to see a movie, and chose "Silver Lining Playbook"... in a small Aventura Theater. It was a strange movie, but at the end very good.... It won awards (or the actors won awards)...

We continued north, after the movie, to the Dailey's apartment, in a gated community. Very NICE!!! (pool, community areas, public grilles, etc.)....
Pizza was the choice for dinner...
We finally got back to the dinghy dock at about 11PM... Nice day...
We took the dinghy, at plane, around the sunset set islands... and back to the AB...
great day...with friends...(photo).

Today is Super Bowl day... Making more R.O. water right now... and listening to the Cruisers Net on Single side Band (8152kHz).
More later.

Yahoo account Hacked - Strange few days

Feb 1st 2013 - New Email account - Yahoo account having been Hacked

Wow... What a couple of days !!!!
We were sitting watching TV... when my iPhone began to buzz, one ring after another.. (indicating incoming emails).... WELL.. they were "Failure to Deliver" messages... from about 1/2 of my contact List OH OH !!!!

I'm assuming that the "failure notices" came from those contacts who had the virus protection up to date, and refused the delivery... (I HOPE).

The end result was downloading a program called "STINGER.exe" from McAfee... ( We called Matt and this is the program he recommended for a quick scan of the laptop)... It worked great... found a "FAKE-ALERT mutant virus, and deleted it...

But by then... the Yahoo account was LOCKED ( also a word of advice from Matt & Ruth) and I couldn't notify anyone....
Marty Besant, fellow sailor, agreed to type out a 'warning message' and forward to some of the contact list.... Thanks MARTY !!!

We thought about using Susan's Yahoo account as the warning message sender, but got 'cold feet'.... So I opened a completely new GMAIL account, using the familiar front of my address.
So that makes all our boat cards WRONG! but hey... it's been a rough couple of days.
I sincerely hope that the hacked "link" didn't hurt anyone else. We'll live with th new Google account, and Chrome.

To date... Susan's account is still functioning... but we've run "stinger" a couple more times...
SO.... Today we saw the movie "DJANGO".... WOW... so many squibbs died during that movie !!!!! Long but good ending.
( We planned on seeing the movie "QUARTET"...With Dustin Hoffman... but, ostensibly I really screwed up the times.

We're still anchored north of the Sunset Islands in Miami Beach.

I'm considering posting more to the www.sailblogs.com site, and inviting my contacts to log onto that... Instead of sending so many emails.... Tell me what you think about that...

Happy to do whatever is best for you. Just
terribly sorry this happened to you and Susan. We are in Hurricane Harbor and plan to leave, probably on Sunday or Monday for Angel Fish Creek. We'll await word from you!
Fort Lauderdale to Miami on the outside
Dean - storm front - Small Craft warnings - ocean passage.
01/31/2013, Miami Beach

Last night, after negotiating the 19 bridges from Lake Worth to Fort L, we had dinner with Ondra, and Nelson Gainey on the s/v Last boat. The photo is of the AB in the Middle River anchorage. It was our first time in this anchorage.

Today (Thursday) we pulled into Miami at 1300 hours, and are now anchored north of Sunset Islands...

We looked at the web page "passage weather", last night... and knew it was a changing forecast.... but it but it looked like a doable condition.
Then this morning, as we're pulling the hook,... the USCG issued Small craft advisory for the section of ocean just north of Port Everglades...
We decided to make a run for it anyway....

WELL...we (AB, and Last Boat) made it, but we couldn't out run the weather front....
it overtook us about 1/2 way down the coast.
The winds went from 12 to 15 on the nose... to 18 to 28 knots from the WEST...
Making for some very confused seas.... with the foam blowing off the tops of some waves...

After about 1 hour of that weather front wind pattern, it was over... we rolled in the Yankee.. turned into the wind...at that point, and Hauled up the whole mains'l.... ( I put a reef in it later....)
Then rolled out most of the Yankee until just short of the Government cut at Miami...
Then the wind picked up again... and we rolled in a little of the yankee... NICE day..

Anyway... we're now anchored near Miami Beach...
We used the afternoon to put on sail covers, launch the dinghy (remove from foredeck), put the motor on thje dinghy, etc. The weather turned very cool this PM... In a few hours it dropped nearly 18F.

Fort Pierce to Lake Worth
Dean - Rainy Morning - Sunny PM
01/29/2013, Lake Worth, FL

We pulled the hook in Fort Pierce about 0745 hours... and started South. Today, the s/v 'Last Boat' led most of the way... The wind was not our friend today.... 10 to 15 with gusts over 22 knots, right on the nose... from the South-south-east.

we're anchored in Lake Worth at N26 45.37 W080 02.62

We cooked dinner tonight for Ondra, and Nelson... and just as we were finishing dinner... a dinghy came along side... with Nina, and Adrian aboard (crew of the s/v DOLPHIN). We first met them at Atlantic Highlands, before the hurricane, and before the NJ 'rounding'. We've been corresponding by text, and emails ever since, but were never in the same harbor, or anchorage since Atlantic Higlands... even though we've traversed almost the same steps south.

Tomorrow the weather forecast is again not in our favor, or at least in favor of an ocean hop down to Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale)... so it looks like we'll slog it out in the AICW again... then sit it out in lake sylvia, or some lake there... until we can get outside to Miami.... Gee...stuck in Fort L, with the raw bar close, and restaurants, and .....
HUMMMM
;)
