Georgetown SC to Charleston SC

Dean - Party cloudy all day... Chilly
Woke up this morning remembering that the wind was to clock 'round to North... and also remembering that we were roughly SOUTH of the S/v "Steelaway".... (a fair distance, but still to their stern in the AM)...
When I looked... sure enough, our anchor was close to their port side, but NOT under them... YEAH...
As I pulled the chain into AB... It was clear that our anchor was well clear of STEELAWAY's port quarter.... so no problem... The minute our anchor tipped up, the wind would blow us AWAY from their stern... NO PROB.
So we were AWAY.. .about 0715 or so... out of Georgetown, and into Wynyah Bay...
WE caught the EBB tide out of Wynyah Bay... doing about 8.1 knots SOG... down the Bay... NICE!!!
Once in the ICW... we slowed a bit... but put up the full Yankee (foresail)... and we were moving along at about 7.7 knots... speed through the water... which held for most of the day....
OUR destination was Dewee's Creek... but with this speed... we changed our intended destination to OUT OF THIS section.... (This section is one of the skinniest sections on the AICW....so OUT is GOOD.
We made it through the Ben Sawyer Bridge (which was "On Request" today)... at about `1545 hours... and to our anchorage across the harbor in another hour...
One interesting thing.... WE heard this sailing vessel, named Minage' pleading with the operator of the Ben Sawyer to open ONE more time... We had passed him going the other way (s/v Minage' going north... us South) Minage' waiting for the tide to go down... so HE could get his "64'-and change" mast height under the fixed bridge that precedes the Ben Sawyer...
She called her supervisor.... and damn... They actually opened it for the ONE sailing vessel.... Lord Love a DUCK.... they must have given these bridge operators a personality transplant.... WE were happy that they accommodated him...
So... anyway...we're now anchored in Charleston Harbor, in the lee of the land... at
N32 45.984 W 079 56.456... Not too far from where we anchored last year on the way South.
We're having some Hot Chocolate with Kailua... YUMMMM nice to have something WARM....
OK... time for rest...
Could be very COLD this evening.... Spaghetti and Meatball night.

Wonderful time at a Finger-Lakes wine tasting tour, organized by our daughter, Ruth.
The tour was followed by a B-day celebration, and dinner at a local restaurant.
Friends, and Relatives gathered from all over NY, and PA. GREAT TIME !!!

Traveling with Benny and Lisa on the S/V Rhiannon, and then Ilene, and Roger, on the s/v ILENE. Beautiful Beaufort SC until we had to leave before our anchor let GO in a blow and tide... and a wonderful ST. Mary's Thanksgiving.
