Bonjour,
Before departing Port Moselle we attended a traditional Tahitian concert near the marina consisting of 10 band members and 10 dancers, they were very good. A beat hard to beat! Sam wiggled with the delightfully clad girls in grass skirts and great head dress, it was hard to eat the local quisine while watching the fire twirler! But I think I will leave the trilogy of raw fish for the locals next time. The next morning while preparing the boat for departure a cruise ship of epic proportions entered the bay, we felt it was our time to leave and allow others to enjoy this delightful Port.
We spent the overnight anchorage at Ilot de maire watching a beautiful sunset and the activities of some locals towing a generator on a small pontoon very close to us with interest. But were nearly blown off the anchor during the night by a local squall. Sailing on to Baire de Prony we were amazed by the colour of the iron oxide hillsides and by the size of the local nickel mine and its activities on arrival, we read it has the longest conveyor belt in the southern hemisphere.( It certainly looked like it) .Ignoring this however we found the type of peace and tranquillity in Baire de Prony found in few places, I could have heard a pin drop this morning .We chose not to go ashore as the oxide in the water and along the shoreline was enough to see without taking it with us everywhere! There were 42, two blade wind generators working quietly and majestically on the nearby hillside. While we explored the bay by dinghy we contemplated our crossing plans for Isle de pins, weather permitting we will push on in the morning.
