On the Seas Again - Alboran Sea

And we're off again! Back to a beautiful day and perfect weather! For the moment anyway!! I think we are giving up on weather forecasts!! No matter how many we look at, they keep being wrong! The research does say that weather is very unpredictable in the Mediterranean West though, and that it can [...]

A Little SNAFU

Smooth sailing all day yesterday...until about 9pm. Then the wind kicked up and up and up, along with the wave action. Around midnight, we decided it was time to look for potential shelter to ride out the weather. So off we went to find a marina along the Spanish coast at midnight that could fit a 14m [...]

Part II - Straits of Gibraltar - Success!!

So far the wildest ride around a point we've had on this trip, and I think that goes down in history for both of us!! Confused seas, wind over tide, 32 knots coming around the point of Cape Trafalgar. I know when LOML says, here comes a big one, he isn't kidding!! Brace!!

Part I of the Straits of Gibraltar Passage

We are so excited to be off!! Goodbye Portugal! It’s so good to be back at sea in the fresh air and sunshine!! Beautiful day so far, wind and seas are calm and the sun is shining 😃 Ziggy has the music going, fishing lines are in the water, and we are off! Couldn't be a more glorious day :-)

Porto

07 August 2017
A walk through the fishing village Afurado, with a little farmers market where you can buy amazing tomatoes, and of course cheese and sausages/meats

Unbelievably, there is also a community laundry in the middle of the town. And when they say community laundry, they aren't kidding!! This isn't you're good old neighborhood laundromat, it is literally hand washing and drying

Fabulous lunch at Taberna Sao Pedro, fresh salad, barbeque robalo (sea bass)
Made new friends over lunch, and shared stories and laughter together - couple from Madrid and another from France/Portugal - they taught us how to eat sardines and squid :-)

Then an afternoon by the marina, playing with the kids and drinking porto blanco

Check-in calls with friends, including birthday calls to Karen and Bob

The next day...A walk through the city of Porto, along the Douro river...9 mikes worth!!
Passed by the port tasting places and took a hike, and I mean a hike!!, up to the University of Porto
Stopped at recommended cafe and patisserie and visited the Lelo bookstore, which is said to be one of the best looking bookstores in the world with wood paneling and a stained glass ceiling, also supposedly what inspired J K Rowling for the Harry Potter series

A lunch with the Veiga family and then back to the marina to get the boat ready to go again
Laundry pickup at 330 and off the dock by 430
