Meeting the rally in Kupang
03 August 2012 | West Timor
We arrived in Kupang after a not too bad night sail. Fortunatley we beat the Darwin to Kupang rally boats (80 odd of them on this route) and we were only 1 of 2 yachts which could be processed by the Indonesian customs, quarantine and harbor clearance officials that day. There was much paperwork and our official rubber stamp was well received by the officials (they love a rubber stamp!!). The next day at least 20 more boats had arrived and the customs boat wasn't working so everyone had to stay on board for most of the day until they could be processed slowly one by one.
That night we had an official welcoming function and Dan was asked to sit at the table of the Governor and Vice President of the region. He was introduced and photographed profusely - I'm still looking for a local newspaper for a pic!!
Today we headed up to a local privately owned orphanage. The kids were gorgeous singing and dancing and winning all of our hearts. We all gave generously knowing that they could do with a helping hand.
We are now fully loaded with new mobiles (dan kept his on roaming) and internet capabilities for the next 3 months in Indonesia - a very trying task indeedy!! If anyone would like my new mobile the number to Indonesia is 001162 and then my number is 81237531321
