The New Plan
08 April 2010
I suppose this whole trip is going to be about dynamic planning. Turns out that I'm not going to be able to stay at MCC for long, so there's no point hanging around Toronto. That said, I've booked a slip at
Doral Marine Resort in Midland. The boat will still be launched, masted, and sea-trialed as planned. However, now the plan is to pull her right back out, put her on a truck, and send her up to Doral. The weekends and summer will still be spent cruising Georgian Bay and the Great Lakes, however, now I will have a "home port". This just makes everything more practical.
The Big Plan
08 April 2010
So, here is the plan (so far)...
April 24 is launch day at Mimico Cruising Club. All the boats go in the water on that day, no matter what.
On May 2, the mast goes up, and Rui will show me how to rig it.
The boat gets sea-trialed on May 8, then that's it, she's underway!
I don't know how long MCC will let me stay in Rui's slip, but I'm hoping to stay there until summer. If not, I'll get some short-term dockage at one of the nearby marinas. During the spring, I hope to sail most weekends and would welcome anybody aboard who wants to help crew. I'll need a few hands on deck until I learn the ropes (literally).
As soon as summer arrives, the first order of business is to head up to Georgian Bay via Welland Canal, Lake Erie, St. Clair River. and Lake Huron. Again, the more hands on deck, the better. The Welland specifies that the vessel must have 3 crew.
The summer will be spent cruising around Georgian Bay, North Channel, and Lake Huron, working my way down toward Belleville for some last minute outfitting before heading south.
Sometime in September or October (depending on weather and hurricanes), I'll head down the ICW to Florida.
December and January will be spent cruising the keys and/or Bahamas.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do at the end of the trip, but the boat will likely go up onto the hard in Florida, awaiting the next adventure.
