First Leg
02 November 2012 | Turtle Bay
Colin
We completed our first leg from San Diego to Turtle Bay about 0900 Halloween night after 58 hrs in transit. While the Baja Ha Ha Rally started out slow with a little motor sailing we had good winds and great sailing for most of the later part. On the way down we saw lots of dolphins and two blue whales which swam within 75 yds of the boat.
Turtle Bay is huge, well protected and currently sheltering nearly 150 boats from the rally. I think weve doubled the population of this tiny fishing village. At night its hard to tell where the town ends and anchorage begins due to all the anchor lights. Although the town has no paved streets or stoplights, the people are very friendly and the fish tacos are amazing! Yesterday we toured the town visiting the church and cemetery while Wendy passed out candy to the children in costume for Dia de los Muertes. One happy surprise was that several of the restaurants and bars had free WiFi, so we were able to get our internet fix.
