We spent 2 nights in Daniels bay just a few miles west of Taiohae, the main harbor of Nuku Hiva. Daniels Bay is reportedly one of the sites where they filmed the reality show Survivor. Pretty spot, good anchorage, not many people. After exploring the area around Daniels Bay we set out on the 25 mile crossing south to the main anchorage at Hakahau on the island of Ua-Pou. The wind was generally light with the exception of a couple of squalls that rolled through. The approach to the island is marked by several very distinctive rock spires that tower over the island. The anchorage was a little tight, necessitating stern anchors, but it is protected by a breakwater and a small wharf where a small cargo/passenger ship was tied up. The village was a nice walk and the church held a beautifully carved pulpit shaped like a ships prow. The wood carving all around the Marquesas is quite remarkable and we picked up several souvenirs.
