I will have to add a Drift Dive/snorkel to the must-do list for all those coming to French Polynesia. I admit that I was a bit intimidated with the thought of snorkeling with sharks, but after reading the sign at the dive shop that said if you do NOT see a shark your dive is free, I figured they are probably pretty safe. We got in the south pass of Fakarava near the outside of the reef and drifted with the dinghy back into the lagoon near slack tide, so that the current was low and slow. Amazing!!! We saw shark fins before we even jumped in but we did it anyways and I loved it so much we ended up doing 3 passes over 2 different days. Not only did we see both black tip and white tip reef sharks by the dozens, we saw thousands of other fish and dozens of types of fish including angelfish, surgeonfish, unicornfish, trumpetfish, triggerfish, rhumphead wrasse, many snapper, and even barracuda. The coral was abundant so the drift was spectacular. We will post some video when we ca n get some good wifi. The movement in the video really adds a lot above a still photo. Now we are off to Tahiti! It just gets better and better!
