We are now in the middle of the high pressure zone about half way between Fiji and NZ. It's slow going motorsailing with very little wind assist. The seas are calm however and the weather fine. Another gorgeous night with googles and googles of stars. Today we had a deck level fly-by from the Royal New Zealand Air Force who hailed us on the radio to ask directions (just kidding). They actually interogate all the boats headed for NZ as part of their Customs operation. Why they do it 500 miles out at sea I suspect has something to do with drug interdiction. Anyway, they were very nice and professional. Sadly, wendy missed the flyby since she was down below. Turns out we have a lot of company out here since we heard them contact at least 5 other boats.
The day after tomorrow, we are expecting a patch of rough weather and it may not be convenient to post on the blog. Don't worry about us though since we have several redundant ways to call for help should we need it, and apparently the RNZAF is keeping an eye on us too!
