Savusavu

We pulled into Savusavu last Thursday and found it much as we remembered from last year. The Copra Shed Marina had added a quarantine dock that greatly facilitated our clearing into Fiji. Once cleared and on a mooring we hit town to revisit our favorite eatery and survey the produce market. While at lunch, we were approached by a guy hawking snorkel/dive trips out to Namena Island about 20 miles away. Ordinarily we say thanks, but no thanks to those guys, but Namena is ranked as one of the top 10 dive spots in the world. And they have giant clams! It turned out to be a great trip. The snorkeling was superb, we were served 2 big meals and enjoyed an afternoon around the kava bowls listening to the locals sing and play guitar. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and highly recommend Namena Divers for their execution.
Back in Savusavu I got to work on some boat projects which included swapping the masthead VHF antenna, installing a new raw water pump on the starboard engine and assorted other small jobs. While I was busy on boat jobs Wendy began provisioning for our cruise to the Lau Island Group. We also went to visit the geothermal hot springs where the local clinic has set up a couple of spa tubs and we had a lovely hot soak.
