Proud to be American

A couple of days ago, the USNS Mercy hospital ship pulled into Savusavu bay. This is a converted supertanker painted bright white with red crosses on the sides. It is the Navy's biggest hospital ship with over 1200 service men and women aboard. They are here as part of an international mission in the Pacific to bring healthcare, medical supplies and health education to the region. They also plan to build 2 schools while they are here. There has been a steady stream of shore boats shuttling personnel, supplies and locals back and forth since they got here. They even had 2 helicopters airlifting big crates of supplies on cables back into the mountains. Today, there was a Navy Band in the town square playing all afternoon. It makes me proud to see the USA represented here like this.
