Musket Cove

Only about 10 miles from Port Denarau, Musket Cove was another favorite stopover from last season. In the lee of Malolo Lailai, Musket Cove is sheltered, has good moorings and anchorage and a very pleasant marina/resort facility for our use. They also have a nice new facilities building with a restaurant and market.
Unfortunately (?) our departure for Vanuatu was delayed due to inclement weather (25-30 kts, gusting to 40…) between the two island groups. It was beautiful in Musket Cove, so no real hardship. We used the time to walk and explore the islands. We found 2 new geocaches. One at a WWII observation point at the top of a mountain which took 3 tries to find the right trail and then a 4 hr round trip hike. Our more pedestrian walks included a medicinal plant tour and a tour of the resort’s organic garden where they grow all the produce for the restaurant and market. Quite interesting. The picture above shows the anchorage and in the background is the lookout we hiked to.
Finally, the weather seems to be clearing for our departure to Vanuatu and we plan to clear out of Fiji with the ICA fleet tomorrow. We should be about 3 days making the 450 mile passage. Stay tuned!
