Dolphins in the Anchorage
28 November 2015 | Tutukaka Harbor, New Zealand
Colin
The next leg of our little journey took us out around Cape Brett and down the eastern coast to a little harbor called Tutukaka. The weather was nice and we had a following breeze the whole way down. The harbor here is well sheltered (except for the idiot ski boat that was tearing back and forth through the anchorage all day Sunday). The town/village is small but serves a good pizza. We also did a very cool hike out to the bluff to see the lighthouse. This hike included a 199 step stairway down to an isthmus that dries at low tide, then up the other side for a stunning view (and geocache), then back across the isthmus before mid-tide has it awash. Last night we were just starting a movie around dusk when we heard splashing and came on deck to watch 5-6 dolphins frolick around our boat. They were with us over an hour.
