Day 10 - More than Half Way (BOTH)
05 May 2016 | South Pacific Ocean
Wendy
Although we really past the halfway in miles point more than 2 days ago, we weren't sure how fast the second half of the passage would be. Now that we are within the 900 mile mark, we are pretty confident (knock on wood) that we have past the half way mark in time too. That, of course, could change if the wind completely dies on us or we manage to break something. But, if things continue as they have been and as are roughly planned, we should be in the Australs in about a week. Our fresh fruit and vegies are running low, all that remains are a few tomatoes, carrots, apples (and of course potatoes and onions). So its time to start using the frozen, but we definitely will not starve. We have already consumed 72 eggs and Colin is on his 4th case of diet coke. These 2 items (along with tortillas, and chips) are the things I did not adequately provision for on the puddle jump, so I may have gone a bit overboard for this passage. But having realized how much we have managed to put away in this first half of the passage, I feel a little better about squirreling away such vast quantities of these items. We have all been reading ALOT and are very glad we have our stash of books, kindles, and tablets (with games and apps) with us. Although its a little bumpy today, we are still moving along at a nice pace.
