Light winds and gentle seas

Last night the wind dropped to about 7 kts S and the seas calmed, so we motored all night. Probably the best sleep each of us has had in awhile. I think the soft, quiet ride mixed with trace amounts of carbon monoxide from the exhaust was the perfect cocktail to knock us right out. The morning dawned overcast with again light winds and calm seas and more of the same forecast over the next several days. So, we started calculating our fuel consumption in earnest and determined we have about 7 days' supply and need just a little over that to make Raivavae. Which by the way is a small island and may or may not have more diesel for sale... Bottom line is that today is a good day to practice our light air sailing skills. Turns out our new jib is a powerhouse in these conditions and we are enjoying brief bursts of speed up to 8 kts in the 12 kt "gusts" and gentle seas.
Sailors sometimes talk about life aboard a small boat on passage as having a rhythm. Well, our rhythm has turned to routine and the crew are showing signs of restlessness... Wendy has devoured about a dozen books and has now turned to crafting. Gavin continues to work out aggressively, swinging like a monkey from the bimini bars. It might be time for the captain to create some diversionary activity to break the monotony, lest the crew's idleness turns to thoughts of mutiny. Perhaps a cleaning detail or maybe something more exciting, like an engine fire???
