Land Ho!

Late this morning we sighted the big island of Hawaii after 17 days at sea and 2500 miles out of Bora Bora. Hawaii was right where it was supposed to be. Whew! The last 5 days have been challenging with 25-30 kt trade winds, large and confused 3-4m seas and lotsa squalls at night. Fortunately the weather has been on the beam, which while uncomfortable allowed us to close reach under jib alone and that became necessary when we tore the mainsail luff to leech about 4 days ago.
Anyway, we are now motoring up under the lee of Hawaii and the seas are flat. We have another 150 miles to go to Honolulu and that may also be challenging as we traverse the windy passages between islands. Right now our ETA is late Sat night or early Sunday morning local time.
Tonight we had homemade pizzas for dinner - yum! All is well aboard Bangorang.
