Back when we were still in the dreaming, and then planning, stages of our new life together, we used to read a lot of books and blogs and yes, even watch some t.v. We had our favourites, some would come and some would go, but one of them was a constant favourite.
This is their boat today, a Southerly 49.
While Dave and I were both still working (an agonizingly long time it seemed), we would watch their show on the weekends. And once Dave retired, the little devil, he would sometimes make me late for work. I would be getting ready with the last finishing touches of lipstick and hairspray (something I haven't "seriously" used since we left land), he would call out to me, "they're on" !! And I would always, but always, come back and sit on the edge of the bed in my office clothes and high heels if only to see the first few minutes of their adventure "that day", and sometimes, I would just say "&%^%$" and be a tad late for work.
Oh, how we used to dream about being in their shoes. Doing what THEY were doing.
They are "The Shards". Paul and Sheryl. They built their first boat, "Two Step" on which they have cruised "the world" and are now owners of a Southerly, still cruising after 23 years, and still producing their travel show "
Distant Shores".
When Facebook indicated that they were not only in the BVI's, but here, in Great Harbour, we messaged them to see if we could possibly drop by to meet them, and sure enough,
they invited to drop in ! Easier said then done when meeting celebrities !
We dinghied over and they graciously welcomed us aboard with "open arms". They were as captivating, warm and friendly in person as they are on the "big screen".
We chit-chatted for an hour or two, and felt very humbled when they asked us to watch (and comment and even be so helpful as to help edit) one of their new episodes.
Dave and I were thrilled to watch their creativity in action, so thrilled, that "I" forgot to take pictures of the whole afternoon, and so these candid camera shots are coming at you thanks to Sheryl !!
Not only can you watch them on T.V., and buy their DVD's but now they are in the throes of making their shows available with Vimeo on Demand.
Check out their website
Distant Shores for all the "how-to's"... we highly recommend their episodes: chock full of great information, great footage and great people (not to mention great dreaming!)
All this while anchored here in Great Harbor, Peter Island. How GREAT is that ?
