After three months (or what has felt like an eternity) of WINDS; non-stop blowing winds, gusty winds, squally winds, dare we say perhaps a tad on the calm-side winds, North Winds, South Winds, East Winds, and a combination of all of the above winds, and then, even more winds... we woke up a couple of days ago to... guess what? NO WIND. NONE. Nada.
Really, it was flat calm.
Banyan was not rolling to and fro. We weren't swinging side to side. Peeking out of the companionway, there was not a breath of air to be felt on our face. The green Lagoon water was like a sea of molten glass.
March 1st had brought not a breath of air with it. A quick peek at WeatherGURU and it predicted,
gasp, even more lack of winds for the next week or so.
Had we been crossing to the BVI, this could've been problematic. Did you notice the word
had? Our plans and dreams of making it to the
DarkNStormy were quickly dissolving in the air (probably due to the lack of wind), as we received the ping of an email from Dougie indicating that one of the WaterMaker parts was not quite the right fit, and needed an,
ahem, another part and so his scheduled Monday morning re-install, was being re-scheduled.
So we sat there, kind of blown away, not to mention starting to sweat in the hot morning humidity, when I smiled,
"What, Dear?" said Dave suspiciously.
"What a great day to send you UP the mast" I suggested, with a hint of a wicked smile.
Dave didn't reply at first, I think he needed to think about that for a moment.
While we offered up a coffee to Doug who was helping with the Project, Dave was busy assembling the tools of the trade (a couple of screwdrivers tied to the chair, just in case they went falling..., ties, camera...).
Pretty soon, Dave was being hauled up the mast, one roll of the winch at a time,
and trying to get a handle on why the Deck FloodLight/Steaming Light has not been behaving properly.
"It's lived a very long life..." said Dave, "time for a new one"
(Add that to yet another growing list of things to get at Budget Marine)
"Nice view from up here" he yelled !!
"Take a picture" I yelled back.
And speaking of wind, look what the winds blew in...
SeaSparrow,
fellow Haligonians had scooted in through the morning bridge opening and anchored not too far from us. Jeff and Debbie had contacted us a while back and we've been e-mailing back and forth. They cast off their lines last year and have been enjoying themselves ever since.
We promptly dinghied over to say "Hello, and welcome to the SXM hood, c'mon over for SunDowners".
I prepped some pizza dough, slathered it with pimped up Spaghetti sauce, pepperoni, cheese..., rolled it up, and into the oven she goes.
Let it cool, slice 'em up, and voila! Delicious pizza slices, great for anytime snacking!
As we chit-chatted the evening away, we watched the boats playing around the anchorage, with seemingly not a breath of a hair between them and us anchored boats, as they were obviously practicing their tacks for the upcoming
Budget Marine Match Boat Heineken Regatta.
Thanks to friends Doug and Wendy for helping us out today. Thanks to meeting new friends.
Thanks to the winds that stopped blowing and Thanks for reading !!
