Everything hurts.
And I do mean Every.Thing.
Muscles I didn't even know I had, are hurting.
Along with the muscles I knew I had, those too are sore.
But it's a good type of hurt.
Cause, you know ? It's all good ??
And as I sit here, back at The Cubicle, "at work" on this rainy Tuesday,
smiling as I create the words that will fill my blog,
I realize even my fingers hurt !
And so do my cheeks, from Smiling So Much.
Cause... you know ? It's all good?
So why are we sore, you might ask ?
Well, the modus operandi for the the last 4 days has been to bring bags and bags and boxes of all sorts of stuff out of the house and into the car... then drive about an hour to East River Marine,
and then take said bags and bags and boxes from the car to the boat, up and down the ladder (repeat ad infinitum), into the cockpit and then from the cockpit down into the depths of organized chaos, and then put away somewhere...
For those of you reading this who are already used to "small and enclosed and limited spaces" you know what I am talking about, but for those of you who don't, let me just put it this way, "somewhere" on a 40 foot boat, is not always so easy to find.
And look at all the deck that needs scrubbing !
And washing, refreshing and oiling down the teak.
Not so sure we like the "oil" part.
Didn't "oil" it last year so we figured we'd try it this year.
Don't much like the look of it, so it's not going to be a "do again" project. And WHAT A MESSY job that was !
And then there's hauling the anchor and rode down to the ground, reversing the rode,
renumbering it with a "KISS" principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid!)
doing an acrobatic head first lunge into the locker to scrub it out ...
(check out the gleaming white inside of the locker and no, no picture of my BUTT sticking very ungracefully out as I tried to reach every nook and cranny to get the last bit of dirt out).
Funny, tho, we did find a Caribbean penny in there, some sort of good luck perhaps ?
...and then hauling 200 feet of chain back up into the locker (manually!)
And here's me washing the decks.
Look at the smile.
I was happy then.
Not sore at all !!
And Dave doing the "hose down".
He's a little sore.
You can tell by the way he's kind of holding on.
Hunched down.
Not smilling at all.
Let me tell you, even hauling and holding (and keeping) a hose 20 feet up in the air is No Small Feat !!
And well, on our old 30 foot boat, we could easily get this done in a couple of days. On this new 40 foot boat, let's just say things are Exponentially Bigger.
But you know ? It's all good ??
And when the sun got too hot, cause it was a gorgeously gorgeous out, all long weekend long, we did some inside work, (but it was too late by then, we both got a tad sun-kissed) !
Like putting some of the spices I got as a present from my HUNNY, who knows (and personally taste-tests first-hand) my Love Of Cooking,
into my
fancy schmancy spice rack
Which was totally one of the ONLY reasons we bought this boat.
Well, Dave may beg to differ...
(check out part of his
fancy schmancy Nav Station)
and the Magic Bullet, another present (thanks Michelley!), can't wait to Try That Out ! Frosty Drinks in the Sunny Waters Somewhere South of Somewhere - here we come !
...and speaking of presents, he installed our lovely new (and working) barometer,
And then we drove home...
... only to do it all over again the next day.
For 4 days in a row.
On a gorgeously gorgeous long sunny and hot weekend.
And that is why we are so sore.
And grinning from ear to ear.
But, you know ? It's all good ?
