03 August 2012 | Lunenburg, N.S.
Woke up to stillness that only the morning mist can bring and sure enough, here's what it looked like when we stepped foot outside.
Spectacular, non ??
We debated as we drank our coffees, whether we would stay for a few days or keep going... Either way, "no doubt about it", we needed provisions, laundry, and a visit to the NSLC. What we got was two out of three...
Our first step on terra firma had us noticing that there was a gaiety in the air, a certain "ahoy mates" type of theme... sure enough mateys, there be pirates everywhere !
After speaking to one of the vendors, and as one of our readers wonderfully pointed out, pirate days and a regatta be upon us which would explain the tall ship Larinda being in town.
Anyhow, a short walk and another coffee and rhubarb muffins at the bakeshop and we were ready to walk the town... (notice I didn't say walk the plank ???) - don't want to get too pirate-y a theme happening here right ?
A few stops had us getting our provisions and well with 3 bags in each hand we had so much we had to turn the freezer on !!
It was just after noon, and stifling hot, and well, as lovely and gorgeous as Mahone is, we felt the sea breeze calling us, and ahoy mates, we raised anchor and off we went for some training of guess who ??
Lesson learned today? Make sure ALL hatches are closed when heading out. Thankfully no damage done, just a wet deck to mop up.
The wind had us changing direction and sure enough, as soon as we tacked round, there were, all of a sudden, 3 of us heading into the same direction.... hmm... I saw the glimmer in Dave's eye, and before you knew it.. the race was on !!
and then guess who's in the lead ??
Before long, we saw the very picturesque town of Lunenburg...
The Bluenose is (sadly) still in refit ...
a pretty nifty (and large) cat is sitting pretty next us, and "aptly" named Cat's Meow (take a read on Bumfuzzle's article on the naming of boats) !!
and here we be, "home" again for another evening...
