When you're kind of bored and motor sailing along and there's nothing really to see but the Big Blue what do you DO ??
Why look up in the sky of course, and this is what you see
And what year is this ??
And oh watch out.. what's that ??
Yes a lobster marker, but no, off in the distance, a great big... hmm...
Is it flotsam, or is it jetsam ??
Hmm, no they be birds-am or ducks-am ?!
Ok, enough of these early morning laughs.
As we left the Sheepscot River and Bay we noticed the gorgeous tree lined coastline was feeling a bit more rugged and dramatic... (Google reports that Champlain sailed the Sheepscot River way back in the mid 1700's thinking he was on the St-Lawrence).
The waves were just a-smashing along the shoreline,
and fishermen continue to go about their business (this one in particular caught my eye as he seemed to have been doing this for A. VERY. LONG. TIME.)
Interestingly enough, the things you remark when you start paying attention... The rooftops of the lobster boats display the markers that they lay down everywhere. They pay no attention to boats around them... it is us who needs to scurry out of their way. They measure everything they pick up and seemingly throw back in more than they keep. They do this day in and day out...
And now that we're anchored in Potts Harbour... that brings us to the last joke of the day...
Do you know WHYYY they named Potts Harbour Potts Harbour ?
Cause there's... (wait for it)... so many darn lobster POTS in here than in all of Maine combined !
Over the gorgeously painted sky last night, Banyan enjoyed a very "european-type" meal...
BBQ'd Johnsonville Italian sausages, and what my mom liked to call "MOZ".
Boil some potatoes as if to make mashed potatoes. When fork tender, turn off the heat and add some drained red kidney beans (to warm up).
Meanwhile brown some sliced and diced onions in butter to your desired "browness". Lots of onion and lots of butter. Why not ? When you live on a boat, calories don't count, do they ?
As it's sizzling away, drain your potatoes and kidney beans, and mash. Mash away as that's the only exercise you're likely to get.
Add the butter/onions and mix.
Add sea salt and freshly ground pepper...
Distinctive. Unique. Delicious.
IMHO.
