Being the fun type of people that we are, we decided that hey, you only live once, why not ? And after having walked all that way... we weren't about to turn back...
So know what we did ? Well, boys and girls, we took the train to Boston !!
(Capital - and largest city - of Massachusetts).
Throwing that in there in case you didn't know.
Location of many events of the American Revolution, Boston Tea Party being one of them. And many others, but hey, i'm no walking history textbook....
In fact, I was not-so-good (read lousy) in geography and history when going through school ! Well, I studied for the exams then promptly forgot stuff !! Something I hope to and intend to make up for as we travel ... so you'll have to bear with me as I re-learn what I am already supposed to know.
And know what else ? Boston is also home of the first subway system of the U.S. of A. and of the first public school.
Speaking of trains, the wait for the train took longer than the ride itself, and before you could say "take me to Boston", there we were, in the TD building, home of the Boston Bruins and Celtics, if only it were hockey season (sorry, not a huge basketball fan) we could've gone to a game ?? Instead, there was the next best thing...
Boston was Dave's first port of call in 1978 when he was serving on the HMCS Huron, and then of course, many times since then. So, after our business with AT&T was finished (SIM card acquired, new american phone number, texting back online, but iPhone has no data plan ??) we went on a reader's digest version of a quick walk through. The amazing Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall, the ole state house (site of the boston Massacre)...
We could've stayed and visited for much longer than an afternoon, however, the little bit that we did cover was a great time. We had not anticipated going to Boston, so this was quite a pleasant surprise. Boston was definitely not what I expected, but again, a great time of what we did see, and I would definitely go back !! After walking all day (remember we had walked to Salem and all through Salem that morning, we were starved, so off to the Bell Hand Tavern, touted to be the oldest tavern in America, for some Buffalo Wings and Beer !
Oh and the best part of it all ? The Boston A-ah-ccent !
