And so when the weather hands you a forecast that's not so idyllic what do you do ?
Find the nearest place that's protected (with "stuff to do") and get to it, of course.
In our case, that would be Newport, Rhode Island.
See all them boats heading... that-a-way ?
And when you've got your mooring ball (at $45 a night for us, $60 for the bigger ones or $5.00 / foot at the dock.. there's roughly hmm, 1000 mooring balls in here - you do the math) and are settled in, what do you do ?
Why go have dinner ashore, of course !!
In our case that would be a quick walk through town to get our bearings, and then settle in at Diego's just behind some buildings off the main drag. And what a GRAND place, with a slight mexican twist to it.
The ambiance was so pretty with evening lights strung all over the place. The waitress so helpful and kind and funny. The food was beyond excellent ! Her recommended red wine - tasty, her recommended appetizer of fried green tomatoes (house made tortilla breadcrumbs), topped with zesty spicy shrimp in a chipotle cream type sauce, simply un-BE-lievable...
Dave and I shared. Yes, shared. He's come along way since we first met and he refused to share his mushroom escargots at The Keg !!
And then she brought us some "on the house" butternut squash shishitu pepper and spicy shrimp rangoons, along with a cilantro thai chili sauce. Thank goodness there were 4 of them. Two for me. Two for you !
And Dave had the Barbacoa Burrito (pulled pork in a burrito) in all sorts of goodness that I can't even begin to describe. I had the blackened tuna steak with grilled pineapple and a zesty white bean salad. Scrumptious, all of it. Cause, you know Dave let me taste some of his and he had some of mine. Sharing is grand, see ?
Oh and look, another surprise... "on the house".
And then we swore we would never ever eat again, ever !, for as long as we lived. Amen.
And then we woke up the next morning kinda hungry.
Just kidding.
So when it's kind of dark and gloomy, but almost sunny with skies of blue, what do you do ??
Put on your foulies and go walking around Newport, of course.
And when you can't find the street and address you're looking for what do you do ?Walk into Dominos and ask the people there of course.
Turns out the place don't exist, even tho the white pages says it do.
And then you turn around and head back out and it's torrentially downpouring and you have only one umbrella what do you do ?
Why, stand under trees like this for a moment or two and hope it stops soon.
And when you come across some interesting colonial type homes what do you do ?
Why stop and take pictures of course.
And when it's past lunchtime and your tummy is growling (and so is Dave) what do you do ?
Why stop at the International Tennis Hall of Fame of course !
Too bad it was raining or I would'a whooped Dave's ass in a tennis match !
Instead we had lunch.
And then what do you do when you're bored and live in a shoe ?
Ok so we don't live in a shoe, but compared to some of these yachts here (MADSUMMER is 147 feet of refined elegance ! and a per day docking fee of $808.50), feels like we live in a shoe.
So what did we do since we live in a shoe ?
Why take the bus to the nearest West Marine store of course.
And when you wake up the next morning and it's howling wind and raining non stop buckets of cats and dogs, what do you do ?
Why, have a cup of coffee and write silly blogs like this one, of course.
And when you hear the taxi man yell "Banyan" what do you do ?
Peek out and see what he wants and then tip him handsomely as he was just passing by and saw Banyan One drifting away as it got unravelled in all that wind and rain and brought it back to us, of course.
So what have we been up to the last couple of days ?
Well, enjoying Newport, Rhode Island, of course.
