Welcome to a day in the life of Banyan and her crew.
Well, crew being relative. It's just Dave and I.
Until our first guests arrive. Looking forward to that !!
So we left San Domingo on a great sunny, blue skied (but cool) type of day.
A definite put your fleece and socks on type of cool.
PS: Dave is still totally resisting this whole sock thing.
Raising our anchor was a bit of a chore, she was dug in but good from the blow we had the other night. And muddy. I counted 5 bucket-fulls of water type of dirty.
We enjoyed our coffees while underway,
waved to the fishermen doing their thing, notice, no fishing pole ?
Just raking the bottom with two long poles... looking for something with a hard outer shell.
Destination "south" towards the sun !! And the heat. And warmer waters...
Dave making sure that our path is free and clear...
Things to avoid : Fish Havens for one...
Don't pass on the inside of this Fuel Dock or the Coast Guard will quickly radio you and tell you to "get out". Nicely and politely of course. Not that it happened to us. Really, it didn't !! But an immense structure in the midst of the deep blue waters, waiting for the big tanker ships to come alongside and dump some fuel off...
Wouldn't be a post form Banyan if I didn't have at least one photo of a lighthouse along the way, now would it ?
And just around the river bend, where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Patuxent River,
we saw some Ospreys.
No, not those kind.
Had you fooled ? Hope so !
Solomons Island is near the US Patuxent Naval Base. so there were lots of things flying overhead. Some of them I couldn't photograph or they'd have to shoot me. Or maybe not. I just didn't have the camera out in time.
We're always keeping an eye out for funny objects in the water - wonder what this one means ?
Oh well... keep going and hope for the best is our motto.
So is not wearing socks, Dave insists !
Heading into Solomons for a look see but man it's a little busy, see ??
Boats and boats and docks and boats and docks everywhere...
We investigated and then came back out and went up the other side of this island, and then meandered our way up a creek and down a creek and tried to anchor off Pancake Point but it was a tad too tight so up and around the next bend and into Mill Creek... where we stayed put, found some free and fast wi-fi, thanks to Mr. Smith;
and enjoyed another great meal while watching the sun set.
Oh and the reason there's no photo of the meal is that our fingers were way too messy from the finger slurping feast of ribs to take any pictures !!
