We left Hampton, VA and crossed into Norfolk, VA !
A whole two hours of motoring fun, where we passed by this very large presence in the water. Make sure you don't get too close to these ones, hefty fines and time in prison if you do !
We were third to arrive at the Hospital Point anchorage, and by the time we hit the snooze button that evening there were over 20 boats anchored for the night. They kept arriving, one after another... The great migration South is definitely not only for the birds.
Our anchorage gave us a clear view of the Carnival Glory
and our dinner entertainment was jazzed up by the loudspeakers on the ship belting out fun tunes for her newly arrived passengers. The music was not to be outdone though, and pretty soon we watched her cast off her lines and execute a 360 degree turn at the point of a dime in some very tight and congested quarters. Astounding. And bow thrusters are an incredible invention, non ?
Norfolk is without a doubt a naval area (strategically placed at the Chesapeake junction) and almost like a second home to Dave, having spent a large part of his career down here... I think there's more ships in "refit" here than there are in the entire Canadian Navy in total. But shh, don't tell anyone that...
By the time we got up and moving in the morning, almost all of our neighbours were gone, and the ones who hadn't, were busy getting prepped for departure.
We re-evaluated our plans and then found ourselves raising anchor as well... time to enter the I.C.W.
