We added up the nautical miles that Banyan has travelled since we left Halifax some 115 days ago and came up with 2012 nm.
Funny how that came up to this year ain't it ?
If the crow flew a straight line down, he'd clock in some 1226 nm.
Question: "So, Banyan after cruising all that distance, safely surviving Hurricane Sandy, not (yet) touching bottom in the ICW, what are your plans now?"
Answer: "We're going to Disney World!"
Oh yeah, baby !! No kidding !
I've never been, and am just beyond, and I mean, beyond giddy with excitement.
Dave's been a couple of times, and he swore that if he ever went again, he'd stay "on-site" so that's what we're doing. The French Quarter at the Port Orleans Resort it is, which, seeing as how I've always,
mais always wanted to go to New Orleans, well, this might be an awesome
avant-goût, oui ?
It's been cold and wet and misty and drizzly the last couple of days and so we've been cocooning, although when one is travelling "the world" one feels kind of guilty when one stays "home" and "cocoons" when one is in such a wonderful place as St-Augustine...
n'est ce pas ?
So while cocooning we did some serious research for our upcoming trip. Ain't technology wonderful ? We downloaded the Disney App that will magically unlock once we reach the premises, to allow us to have instant access to what is going on where and when. Apparently they even have biometric scanners...
We painstakingly made our dinner reservations, which, by the way, was another excitement in our day. When we called the telephone number, as the online button wasn't working, the live person on the other end of the line offered us a couple of free packages, just for ahem, being "Canadian"? Wow.
We are even thinking we may now do a little detour and visit the Kennedy Space center as well.
When we peeked out of our companionway this morning we saw the sun starting to sparkle,
and that instantly propelled us to get out.
Amazing the things you can find for one dollar.
and just up the road, visited the Sailors Exchange, a local hotspot, where any mariner could easily get lost rummaging through stuff !
We went shopping for one of those charcoal water filters, "one more thing" that was on our list of things "to buy". This will allow us to filter the water from the marina hose before it reaches our tanks "just in case". With a few extra attachments to buy, and now that's all prepped and ready for use.
And in the evening we've been relaxing watching the old, old James Bond movies... "Dr No", "Goldfinger"...
I've been practicing (and as my strength returns) expanding my yoga practice, almost on a daily basis. Decidedly easier to perform the balance poses when one is relatively stable tied up to a marina. So I'm slowing down and stretching and breathing and stretching, the Corpse Pose allows me to see up close and personal that Banyan needs new carpet runners. Badly. But that's not the point of relaxing is it ? Maintaining a relaxed mind is remarkably difficult sometimes.
And so as we crossed one thing off our list, we instantly added another. Where oh we're can we find "decent" carpet runners ?
Whenever we leave or come back through the Hidden Harbour Gates, there's always a friendly face,
or two, waiting to greet us.
Life on Banyan is, and continues to be, amazing.
