Today (being Friday) was a day to get at some CHORES (before the weekend), which is synonymous for NO CHORES.
Funny that I would even mention that it's Friday, or The Weekend. On several occasions recently we have looked at each other and were unable to confirm the day or the date. How did this happen ? The Man that Wears a Watch on military time, has, all of a sudden, no idea what day it is ? Why he must be FINALLY suffering the side-effects of retired-dom!!
And so, it's just a new and ripe with possibilities beautifully gorgeous day. And so it should be, anywhere, anytime. Enjoy the Day. No matter What Day it is.
So we poked our head out for a look-see
and decided we needed to get some stuff done before it got to be too hot outside. I took the bag'o'laundry and headed to the marina, while Dave got the generator out to charge up the batteries, got some hull polishing done, and fixed the light issue.
I am pleased that we have been velcroed here for awhile as the routine of life has compulsified me into MY taking MYself places, and although I could always take dinghy and go, whenever and wherever, we just naturally seem to have "roles". Dave Drives and I enjoy the Drive. In reality tho, the confidence that arises when one changes things up every now and then, is good for the soul.
We decided that since we had one item left in the freezer (some amazingly looking thick steaks) we needed to dust off the BBQ (something we hadn't done in, OMG, forever and a day), in order to prep for that, but oh look, what a Monster we found, happily perched on there.
Yikes. A quick run down below for the camera, and back up again, and it was still sitting there. A gazillion attempts at a close-up shot later, and I discovered that I really don't know how (or perhaps there isn't??), a MACRO function on my Canon for some reason.
Dave nicely suggested: "Gee Dear, perhaps you should read The Manual?"
Perhaps I just need to press every single button I can find, in rapid succession and in no particular order whatsoever, while precariously standing on the transom, under the flag, next to this beast, without shrieking, and OMG what if it flies into my hair and I fall overboard, camera and all ?? That be no good.
Dave went below during my antics. I think he was hiding. I'm not sure yet if it was from Me or The Beast?
If I'm far away I can ZOOM in close, but standing not even a foot away from this crunchy looking pre-dinner-snack for-a-dinosaur beast (and not screaming !) and trying to get a shot in precise detail of its red antennae and hair on its legs (and not screaming !) was impossible.
The Beast moved, I shrieked. Dave came to my rescue and flicked it away. I did not fall overboard and camera is safe.
After all that excitement, we went for our habitual afternoon walk and watched some very able bodied youngsters surf the waves,
and the evening had us enjoying some Seriously Delicious Steak and Baked Potatoes. And this was
Banyan's most-excellent day, up close and personal.
