A Week of Days in Distractions

03 November 2013 | Mt Hartman Bay, Grenada
Alex, it's been a week of EVERYTHING
Boy how time flies when you're busy with a spreadsheet of an agenda that specializes in Distractions. Here we are, almost OVER a week after the Last Blog, and how did that Happen? As Cruisers, we (ahem) typically don't know what Day of the Week it is, but this time Dave and I have looked at each other and said, "Wow, a week, what?"

Every morning (except for Sunday), we wake up to The News. The Net and The Coffee dominate and activate our To Do list as we listen to the details about all sorts of things, but the ones to Note, other than New Arrivals and perhaps the Treasures of the Bilge or even the (After the Fact) Sunrise Times of the Weather, are mostly the Shopping Busses and the Social Activities.

Although we may dream of doing ALOT of Nothing, and others may think we do even more of that, what happens instead is Reality smacks us right in the face, screaming "Get Up, oh, You're Up, get Moving, there's Things to be Done." And as we're prepping coffee in the stillness of morning, we get waked by the speeding Calvigny Taxi as he carelessly zooms by our bow, causing a roll that throws us out of Sorts and the pen draws a careless line across the pad of paper that lists our Things To Do.

And just what do we Really Need To Do? Why, Yoga is on at Oh-Eight:30. Then there's the Shopping Bus at Oh-Nine:30 (and boy do we need some food, and the next shopping bus is 4 days away, and hmm, do we have enough stuff to last us that long?)
"Hmm, Dave maybe I can do both?"
"Sure" he says, intent on his own list, "You do that (maybe he really doesn't want to twist into Downward Facing Dog ten times over?), and I'll Wax the Sides of the Boat (so now he's getting out of Yoga AND shopping??)

"But, honey, looks like rain..." I say, just as the grey clouds collect overhead in a thunderous mass and the downpour starts. The best thing to do then is run out and see if we can bring in the laundry before any wet damage is done,

and looks like Hull Waxing will Have to Wait till after the rain-fall.

On another day we head in to the Marina for some serious WiFi (aka Skyping and Blogging time), but oh, look, they're playing Domino's, hey, can I play too? And, oh, look who just walked in, haven't seen you in FOREVER, sit, have a beer, what's new ??

Or we get settled for an afternoon swim when a dinghy pops by, and innocently asks "You going to the Volleyball Clinic?" Which is followed by Volleyball Game which is followed, of course, by by Popcorn and Beer and then it's oh-dark-thirty and where did the Day Go as we head back to our cockpit and watch the stars twinkle their way into a beautiful starry night that just makes you want to sit there in the cool evening breeze.

And then there's the day the Capt'N figures it's a good time to go alongside as the batteries need equalizing and the anchor chain needs some maintenance and TLC,

Being alongside is much calmer and allows us to sleep through a few nights of these rolly Tropical Waves, but, the Calendar brings on Distractions of Other Kinds.

Like the Decorating Committee for the Halloween Party is on full swing

and there's costumes to be made out of Nothing, and a bazillion balloons to be blown up and all the while the Capt'N is grumbling about not being able to connect to Shore Power, turns out the Frequencies are all Wrong. Darn and Drat!

So we wake up the next morning on our way to Yoga only to set our sights on poor dinghy, full up with overnight rain and an overturned gas can that leaked some unsightly oil marks on her just-cleaned sides, ugh,

so guess what needs doing first?

Then the day becomes calm, it's not raining, and so the plan is to fuel up, but that's no quick job either. The jerry jugs get untied, the filters come out, the diesel goes in, the security guy needs to be found (he's on lunch break, so we might as well have lunch too)...

can't you see how our days are ruled by an ADD type of Mantra?? "Attention... Distractions Distractions !!"

And that's been our week. A week where Nothing (and yet Everything) got done, just not in the order we expected it to, or how we planned it would, all because of Distractions, but truly, all in perfect synchronicity and with lots of Smiles!!
