"Paradise Wants You" : the above photo is a photo of a lamination on a side wall of a house in a little Village called Hamilton in Bequia.
*****
It was a morning of Yoga-
torture-esque type of bending and twisting and breathing moves at Jacks Bar on the Beach, and we were happy to note that even they were in sync with our new Zen-Exercise way of life.
I have to admit that the Capt'N's Downward Facing Puppy is getting Downright Awesome !!!
This was followed by a P90X Killer Ab Workout (of which, you'll be happy to know, we ALMOST reached the mid-200 count - out of a possible 339!!), which is downright awesome in its own sadistic way too, isn't it?
Back on the boat, the next few hours consisted of Water and Power Generating activities, and then it was off for an afternoon of Adventuring. Read: More Exercise. Know: It's blazingly hot and intensely sunny and soon to be a sweaty type of Adventure.
We followed the road along the northern coast of Admiralty Bay, towards the village of Hamilton.
Wasn't much shade to be found so every now and then we popped in under the canopy of trees to admire the colourful boats and greet the villagers with a smile and a "Good Afternoon", all probably wondering Why on Bequia Afternoon Hot Heat we were out and about. Truth be told, we were wondering the same !!
Nice road, and then...
"Now, THAT'S a hill to climb Dalynn", however we didn't want to say it too loud in case she might want to drag us up there, all in the name of Adventuring !!
The houses on the side streets always proving to be curious,
or take this one, whose outside wall was plastered with copies of old newspaper stories that have somehow been laminated onto the sheets of wood (and from where the cover photo for this blog was taken).
Passing by a Rasta type of house, we hard someone shout something out at us.
"What'd they say?" queried Dalynn, "Do we want some Canopies?"
"It sounded like can of piss?" Said I.
And we both looked at each other and instantaneously guessed "Cannabis".
You just never know what you'll find... right?
The walk up the hill towards Fort Hamilton, with views of Admiralty Bay
can summarily be summarized by the following taxi-cab name,
as we continued up and up and up.
There wasn't much left of Fort Hamilton by the time we got there. However, on a serious note, somewhere in my virtual research I read that "Eleven cannon were recommended for these three batteries" way back when, when you can well imagine how the entrance to Admiralty Bay would have been a prominent consideration for this place,
yet today, we were all equally impressed with the view
and the flowers.
The billboard gave an interesting bit of historical info as follows:
"
According to local tradition, during the late 1700s, a misfired canon aimed at an enemy ship split the island's south western tip, separating it into two small cays."
On our way back the Group of Intrepid Adventurers chose to go down another side-street, of one of the steepest descents we'd done to date,
only to discover that the restaurant at the bottom, (and our goal of some icy cold Hairoun) dashed to smithereens as we noticed the windows and doors all boarded up, as the nearby lady hanging up her laundry under her house smiled and laughed and said "Yes, they be closed mon".
There was just a slight bit of moaning and groaning and complaining as we valiantly trudged back UP the hill.
We stopped for a moment to visit the marina
and Devil's Table,
all also Closed for the Season, which didn't really prevent us from horsing around
until the wind stole Dalynn's hat away from her, and we all watched it plop in the water,
And then Glen, her knight in shining armour, jumped in the perilous waters to bravely rescue it from the hazards of the sea.
This little advertisement should dispel any doubt you may have had about the freshness of the ingredients around here.
Watching the sunset from The Fig Tree in Fish Friday type of tradition had us enjoying the company of Great Adventuring friends, both old and new,
all the while pretty glad we'd enjoyed and shared another great day in Paradise with You.
