Some more mis(adventures) !
28 July 2009 | Cape George, Cape Breton
Alex... sunny and HOT !!
After watching a bald eagle and some seagulls battling rights to the eagle's perch on the tree, Dave gave the great Illihee a good scrubbing on the outside and I did the same inside. The sun was out and the skies a beautiful shade of blue, so we walked to town and got another bottle of wine or two and some more water (yes honey, I really do drink ALL that water LOL) and when we got back, we topped up the fuel and we were ready to rock and roll.
Wow... what a difference sailing on the lake... The little inlets and the scenery was magnifique (I ever told Rum Runner I forgave him for his wild and crazy ideas that had us fighting the odds two nights ago), and we arrived in Cape George a good hour later. Even the pictures we took can't describe the green of the greenery and the blue of the water ...
We arrived inside Cape George and had another (mis)adventure. As we were trying to anchor, the anchor locker dropped on Dave's toe and all I heard was an inventive curse word and total silence as he hobbled back to me and all I could think of was that first aid manual that teaches us what to do in a case such as this. Damn... what was that on page 57?? Make a long and gruesome story short, it could'a been much much worse, and his toe is still there and will (eventually) be alright, just a nice slice right at the top of the nail which bled furiously all over the place.
I kept telling him how much worse it could'a been, which of course, he didn't want to hear as he was too busy cursing himself. Things happen.
Thanks to poor Dave's toe, I did learn another thing or two, namely that I don't faint in the face of all that blood, that I did remember what was in that first aid manual (the only problem was to convince THE MAN to listen to THE WOMAN who did know what she was doing). Since he couldn't walk I also got to play with the anchor and practice more of what I had learned during my CPS course...
After all that excitement and once David regained some color in his face :) I jumped in the lake to cool off and had a quick swim before we enjoyed some wonderful pork souvlaki on the BBQ, and a surprise 911 delivery (aka Rum Runner and Hallelujah), who had been scavenging for oysters while I was playing nurse, brought over some Oysters Bras d' Or which they had cooked up with some spinach, cheese and hot sauce ... mmm... delicious.
The only downside to the Lakes... mosquitos abound. We shut her down after sunset after being eaten alive and crashed shortly thereafter, too much excitement !!
