Man it's going to RAIN !!
30 July 2009 | Dundee, Cape Breton
Alex... muggy HOT !!
After all that sun, we woke up to some heavy duty winds and surf hitting us Thursday morning and listening to the weather forecast didn't do much to instill hope that we were going to do much of anything that day. Priorities being what they are (namely we needed ice), Dave and I went on a REKKE patrol, to scope out Dundee marina, to see if they could provide ice (and showers) and perhaps even a place for the night to escape the upcoming predicted winds and rain.
Dave motored across in bumpy conditions while I cleaned up inside and it was pretty choppy going into the wind but we were there before you knew it and Cindy at the marina was able to accommodate us "no problem". Our friendly neighbors, Bud and Joyce from Maine, were quite impressed with Dave's maneuvering abilities as he got Illihee settled into a very tight spot. What a couple they were, into their mid-eighties for sure, having exchanged their sailing vessel for a powerboat, they were enjoying and living the life, that's for sure... nice to see !! It was a delicate ride into the marina though, with not much room to spare. Thankfully Illihee only draws 4.5 and still Dave was very careful ...
Dave radioed Rum Runner and Hallelujah to let them know that there were spots for them too and then we promptly ran for the showers and got the laundry started. By the time all that was said and done, we were starved and eyed The Stuffing Box quite hungrily. The cook (and owner) who also happened to be another fellow Quebec'er came out to chat... man, i can always pick out that accent and it was nice to exchange some stories.
This was a cute little marina kind of hidden in the cove. Little shop had alot of sailing accessories, and we were able to refill and freeze our water bottles. Laundry facilities were there, and the two showers in the women's washroom were clean and quite spacious. There's nothing nearby though in the way of provisions. Dundee Resort looked like it would be quite far away (via dinghy) however we didn't ask to see if there was a ride available or if we had access to the resort as marina guests.
It was a million times muggy and despite being in a very sheltered spot the winds were howling so it must've been quite nasty "out there" and we spent quite the lazy evening doing a lot of nothing. Dave had an early evening snooze and I strolled for a bit, and then we spent some time munching on appetizers (thanks once again to Rum Runner and Hallelujah's wonderful provisions), exchanging stories and laughs with our fellow travellers. Discovered the story behind Rum Runner... and then came back home and I made dinner of pasta primavera (fried up some Italian sausage minus the casing) and added some pasta sauce and let that simmer while the pasta cooked..., glass of wine and mmm... our only complaint is we had no Parmesan Cheese... ahh the life of the spoiled LOL... dessert was JIFFY POP while watching Men in Black II. Perfect way to wait for the winds to subside and the rain to come.
