Saturday and the adventure continues...
01 August 2009 | Grand Narrows, Cape Breton
Alex, it's starting to clear
We spent the day yesterday cruising up the coast from Dundee towards Iona & Grand Narrows.
Alls I can say about yesterday is MAN IT WAS HOT ! Not that i'm complaining, i'm not, but MAN IT WAS HOT !! Not one ripple on the water, and clear blue skies. Beautiful, but MAN IT WAS HOT !!
We sailed by Marble Mountain and noticed what looked like a mine entrance and made a mental note to sail back towards that way and go on a walkabout up there...
We stopped in a little inlet to have lunch and what else can I say, but it was too hot even for that as it was so sheltered so what little wind you might hope to have had out on the water was all but gone. Dave BBQ'd up some hamburgers and we inhaled them so quickly in an effort to get out of the heat and sun as quickly as possible...
Cruising along the coast we enjoyed the beautiful picturesque Cape Breton scenery and just relaxed in the moment. As we were getting closer to Grand Narrows, I noticed this beautiful blue house on the top of the hill that I pointed out to Dave, mentionning how lucky they must be to enjoy such a beautiful view.
It was kinda neat to see the Barra Strait bridge open (it's a bascule bridge) to vessels going through and then spotted the marina where we were to dock to meet up with Dave's friends. The Bras d'Or Lakes are basically two bodies of water, the "Big" lake and the "Little" lake, separated by the beautiful Barra Strait which lies between the villages of Grand Narrows and Iona, and that is where we were at the moment.
Upon arrival, Gerard and Brenda were waiting for us at the little marina and we docked and made sure Illihee was safe and sound, and would you believe it, we drove up right to the ... little blue house at the top of the hill !! LOL... magnifique !!
We cooled off in their air conditioned house with a few cold ones for the boys and the most amazing Jost wine I've had (ever!)... we chatted over an amazing supper of haddock and salmon and salads, a most wonderful dinner and after some "special special coffee" we headed down towards the beach for a bonfire, where me met some of their family and friends. I enjoyed some SWISH and would you believe us old fogies (aka Dave and I) were unable to party at such a beautiful spot and actually asked to be taken back to the comforts of a real bed by 12:30 !! LOL.
This morning had us waking up refreshed after a "real bed sleep" to fresh fruit smoothies, fish cakes and scrambled eggs and toast, and even the clouds are dispersing to show some hint of blue underneath... on with our adventure !!
