TGIF sail...
21 August 2009 | Halifax Harbour
Alex, sunny but the fog rolled in...
The thing about Fridays is that one has to love sunny Friday afternoon's and one has to love having a bit of time to get home, pack 'er up, get back to the yacht club and Illihee II, pack 'er up, and hit the harbour, all in speedy gonzalez time, in order to take advantage of every precious second of every precious minute.
Sigh... and all that it was. Dave and I and Aaron and Darren sailed out of the club, out comes the jib, and we were doing 5.5 on that alone, beautiful !! The winds were warm, sun was shining, and we were sailing and what a way to end the week and TGIF !
Around McNabs Island and out and back in by Lawlor Island-Eastern Passage we were going to go but we saw a wall of fog "out there" and knew that the coming around might not be so much fun, so we turned Illihee around and went down to see what the Halifax waterfront was doing (not much going on for a Friday evening !) and then tacked and tacked towards George's Island and tacked and tacked all the way back into the Club.
There were a few keeners out and about and we were lucky enough to see two Minke Whales !! Or perhaps it was the same one twice :) A couple of seals poked their heads out to see what was going on, unscared of us as we passed them by. We wondered if the animals could feel the upcoming irritation in the water and choose to come in to safer waters??
We were glad we didn't go out and around because by the time we hit the Club, the fog was pretty dense and it was cold damp chilly and all of us in shorts. We wouldn't have seen any of Eastern Passage coming in either... we nixed the hamburgers on the BB... and no sun, so no sundowners either.
Tomorrow we batten down the hatches, secure the lines and remove the sails and all that in the hopes that we do it all for naught and that Hurricane Bill will end up just being a small gusty raindrop or two.
So the thing about Fridays... is you just gotta love them ! Can't wait for every day to feel like a Friday !
