Barra was hit by the worst blissard of 2008. Pictured here is Castlebay buried deeply in snow from the record breaking blissard of the year. It was a good job I had patched my great great grandfathers thermal long johns.

01/25/2008, Morro Bay California
Large storm swells reached Morro Bay California on December 4, 2007, bringing 15-20 foot swells with some plus sets. A U.S. Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Life Boat was out for practice maneuvers in the large surf, which is not unusual. However, a large wave hit that was probably more than they bargained for...at least it's the hardest I've ever seen them get hit. The air was filled with mist, and they were quite distant, so at times were just a shadow in the mist. I've adjusted them for better visibility, however the quality of the photos is not the greatest due to the above conditions, and futile attempts to keep the lens dry.

This Is Catherine. Catherine is from Kenya and works for ACTS. Assist a Child to School (ACTS) is a registered charity that has been operating in the schools of a slum area named Kongowea in the suburbs of Mombasa for over 13 years.
Kongowea, a slum area north of Mombasa town, which is the target area of ACTS, is a typical example of urban poverty. Poverty limits the ability of parents to pay for their children's education. Consequently, most children are unable to pursue higher education beyond standard eight. It is against this background that ACTS was founded in 1993 with the objective of enabling children in need to access quality education and training thereby enhancing their chances of a secure future. ACTS was registered in Kenya in 1998 and in the UK in the year 2000. Sponser a child on:- Schools 4 Kids and make a difference.

Can anyone identify the MacNeils in this picture.
I have attached a pic from my dad of his new best friends the McNeils whom he met while on a flight to you know where.
I gave my dad a flight to Barra for his 83rd birthday and he was royally entertained by the McNeils he met on the flight and given a tour of the island in the 80mins between flights. it was a very memorable day for him and the rest of our family have not heard the end of it! These kind folks gave him some true island hospitality and he was thrilled to bits.
Do you know them and can you pass on a contact address to :- iainvat1967@btinternet.com

This is the mounument for the 350 souls lost on the sailing boat the Annie Jane. The Annie Jane was on her maiden voyage from Liverpool to Quebec when it ran into a storm west of Barra. The boat is believed to have mistaken the west beach on Vatersay for a sound while retreating from the storm and went on the rocks. The vessel was owned by two sisters hence the name Annie Jane.

This gorgeous 21 year old model is a growing fan of my little blog. It was her that prompted me to update it and as I had no photos to do so with she supplied the photo. I've been friends with Sarah Louise for sometime now and as you can see by her beauty she was originally from the UK. She set of to find her fortune at the tender age of 3 and by golly she's blossomed into a beautiful rose.

I aquired a new fan from Bridlington. Craig Suddaby is a keen fisherman like most of the Barra population. He sent a few photos of his two lads doing offroad biking which I had to add to my blog. Although my offroad biking wasn't intentional these lads are wearing helmets that might have kept me out of hospital.
