The end of the Seine
08 May 2016 | Le Havre, France
Up early for the long run down from Rouen to Le Havre. You need to complete this passage in one hit as there really is nowhere to stop en route. Just as we were leaving our pontoon we got caught nicely sideways by the fast river flow in a most unglamorous way - a wee reminder from the river gods that the show is certainly not over. You have to leave at a certain point on the tide to make the most of the downward flow (spring tide plus current is very fast - 10 kts at times) but when the tide turns you do hit a bit of a wall for a while, which almost brought us to a standstill of 2 kts. A nostalgic moment as we passed under our last Seine bridge near Honfleur, and headed out to sea to skirt round the sand banks and up to the marina at Le Havre. And so ends the trans-France part of the trip. A wee celebration was had by the crew on arrival.
