Misty Carlingford
23 May 2016 | Carlingford Lough, Ireland
Off with the tide at 0600. Peachy sail to windward, beating up past Wicklow point with the tide under us and the sun rising – one of those fab mornings, made even better by mid-morning bacon and mushroom rolls. Wind eventually tailed off as we passed Dublin (as forecast) but we had managed to make the most of the combo of wind and tide. Found some nasty overfalls just as we were serving up the bacon butties and fresh coffee – most inconvenient moment to have to tack. Had to reroute later due to live firing by an Irish warship – we are assured this was nothing personal and the warship were very nice about it. And on towards Northern Ireland – Steve’s homeland. Finished the day in Carlingford Lough – really lovely surroundings. The south coast is Ireland, the north is NI – almost there. Drove around the rocks and sandbanks for a while until we found somewhere sensible to drop the hook, and enjoyed a fairly settled night.
